Information and Updates for Sgt. Sergio with USMC
Last Update: 5/30/2013             << Back to list

Operation PAL Participant We found out about a Marine who, after having made it through deployment, has gotten some terrible news. He was in Sergeants Course, and he and his wife noticed red dots (plachia) all over his body. They didn't think any of it but he was feeling more tired everyday, having more bloody noses, constant headaches. He went into medical for a PULLED HAMSTRING. The doctor who checked him out did her job and had his blood tested. His platelet count was extremely low (10,000 vs. normal 150,000) and white blood cells were at (6000 vs. normal 7000-10000). At the hospital it was determined he has a leukemia known as ALL, which is Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia with Philadelphia Chromosome positive.
His parents are now in the process of booking flights, etc. so they can be with him. Sergio has a wife and 2 children. Let's lift this family up in prayer. Lots of cards have been requested.

Update: 7/20/2012 One of our volunteers met Sergio and told him you are all praying for him. He began his chemo treatments Thursday.

Update: 8/31/2012 We understand Sergio is having bone marrow transplant surgery soon. Please pray that all goes well and that he responds to the treatment beyond expectations.

Update: 10/16/2012 from Sergio - he sent an email to correct our original information so if you read his story again you will see it has been edited.
He said he has been been receiving all your letters and cards and greatly appreciates them. He says the good news is that he will be getting a bone marrow transplant soon.
Sergio, we will be praying that the marrow transplant goes well and has the desired result. Stay strong. The whole country is behind you! {{{{hugs}}}} to you and your family from all of us.

Update: May 30, 2013. We were able to check in with Sergio and found out his transplant took place on November 17th and he is doing very well in his recovery. He tells us that things are getting better and sends his "Thanks" for all the continued support! Great News!
