(Please Print when you write to Kevin.)
We met Lance Corporal Kevin and his Mom when the Purple Heart Family Support provided a meal at the hospital. He and his Mom came in for some burritos and salad. He suffered a severe head injury in March and will have a very long recuperation. Mom said they would like to know they are not alone in this struggle.
You can help them by sending good wishes from wherever you are. Update
: 2/20/2010 We've been in touch with Kevin's family and Mom says he was cleared to come home. He's been much better since he is home and able to be with family 24/7. They have to keep a close eye on him but are so grateful they can continue his therapies and still have him home. The encouragement you have been sending helps to keep them motivated and they thank you for your continued support. Update
11/16/2010 from Mom: She says Kevin has so much fun reading the cards that come. He can't remember reading them, so he gets to read them many times and he enjoys them each time!
Kevin has been home since December 19, 2009. He is walking a lot better and has starting talking more. There are still many words he can't remember or say, but he tries.
His main problem is his memory. He can't remember past 2 or 3 minutes. But he is happy being home. He has regained all the weight he lost while in the hospital.
He received a Wii last Christmas and he enjoys playing that, especially "Just Dance". He LOVES that game! He beats everybody in the house and they say they are NOT letting him win either!
Mom says "Thanks to all the wonderful people who still remember our heroes! Words really cannot express the excitement on Kevin's face when he goes to the mailbox and gets an envelope from your organization. He spends hours reading the letters and cards. It is helping him learn to read again. Plus it lifts his spirits!
Thank you so much!
: 10/10/2011 from Mom: Kevin is reading more again but it is hard for him to read cursive so if you could, please print. He is beginning to walk again and doing very well with his math skills. Mom says the cards he gets really help him out a lot. She thanks you for the time and effort you take to write to him and is going to work on getting us a new photo. We'll post it when we get it. GO KEVIN!
UPDATE: 11-10-13 Thanks to two generously donated tickets and with the help of TeamsforTroops & TideforTroops, Kevin was able to attend his first University of Alabama football game on October 21st. He had a great time all decked out in his red "Can I get A roll tide?" t-shirt. Although he did have to leave at half time due to the noise level causing migraines (even though he was wearing ear plugs and had taken his migraine meds) he was one happy Bama fan!
A little birdy told me that someone is celebrating a birthday this month :) HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEVIN!
